BANDA ACEH - Ansar Salihin and Sulaiman Juned have successfully won a children's story writing and translation competition from regional languages to Indonesian, organized by the Balai Bahasa of Aceh Province.
Salihin wrote the story in the Gayo language, while Juned acted as the translator of the story into Indonesian.
Salihin, representing the writing team, received the award at the Balai Bahasa Aceh Province office auditorium on Friday (June 21, 2024). The award was presented directly by the Head of Balai, Drs. Umar Sholikan, M.Hum.
Salihin is a young writer from Gayo Bener Meriah, Aceh, currently teaching cultural arts at MTsN 5 Pidie.
He is also a postgraduate alumnus of ISI Padangpanjang and was active in the Kuflet Arts Community from 2010 to 2016.
Dr. Sulaiman Juned, a Theater Lecturer at ISI Padangpanjang, is also known as a poet, columnist, theater director, and founder of the Kuflet Arts Community in Padangpanjang.
The children's story script that won the competition is titled "Dediang Ku Imah Edet Gayo Reje Baluntara" in the Gayo language and translated into Indonesian as "Visiting the Gayo Traditional House of the Baluntara Kingdom."
This children's story script successfully passed the selection along with 49 other scripts written in various regional languages in Aceh, such as Gayo, Jamee, Alas, Klut, and other regional languages of Aceh.
There are three categories in this competition: level A, B, and C. The script "Visiting the Gayo Traditional House of the Baluntara Kingdom" passed at level C, aimed at children aged 8-11 years.
Salihin explained that the children's story script tells the journey of three children visiting the Gayo traditional house of Reje Baluntara. They seek information about the history, components, and carvings of the traditional house.
"Writing children's stories is not just about crafting a story to convey information. The writer must enter the imagination of the child as the reader. The language must be easy to understand, with no more than 12 words per sentence, and it must contain cultural information of a region," said Salihin.
Juned hopes that through this story, local culture can be documented and preserved in the form of children's stories. Additionally, he hopes that this story can foster a love for local culture in children.
"This book builds the children's imagination to explore the Gayo traditional house of Reje Baluntara, thus increasing their knowledge and insight about the cultural richness of a region," explained Juned.(kiprahkita.com)
