Sekdako Sonny welcomed the implementation of this IMLF. He also thanked the committee for choosing Padang Panjang as one of the places to visit.

Sonny hopes that IMLF activities can run smoothly according to what has been planned. "IMLF is certainly one of the important moments in Minangkabau cultural literacy itself," he said.

Chairman of the IMLF Committee Sastri Yunizarti Bakri explained that IMLF was held February 22-27 2023 by Satu Pena supported by West Sumatra Talents and other parties. This event intends to create synergies between nations in building a new world order through a world-scale literacy movement.

Sastri said, IMLF participants included from Satu Pena Communities throughout Indonesia, writers, cultural figures, artists from various countries, professionals related to literacy, such as lecturers, teachers, librarians, archivists, historians, philologists and others.

Then, literacy activities, such as managers of reading houses, community reading gardens, and the like, publishers and media managers, state civil servants who carry out structural and functional positions related to literacy.

"Delegations from foreign countries who attended included Australia, the Netherlands, Brunei Darussalam, China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Spain, Argentina and India. IMLF activities also involve students, students, schools and other communities," said Sastri.

Activities during the festival include seminars, panel discussions, workshops on academic writing and creative writing, literacy exhibitions and book exhibitions, cultural performances and food bazaars and art performances.

This activity, continued Sastri, aims, among other things, to improve the increasingly complex literacy culture in the 4.0 era. Sharing insights, knowledge, and experiences related to the world of literacy in various aspects of education, arts, culture and the creative economy.

As well as promoting and getting to know the Minangkabau environment and West Sumatra tourism objects which are increasingly developing internationally.

"Our target is to develop literacy skills in global interactions towards a new world order that has crossed national borders. Growing socio-cultural skills in building mutual understanding and self-integrity as new world residents. Promote and get to know the Minangkabau environment and West Sumatra tourism objects that are growing," said Sastri.

He added that the activity carried out was a breakthrough and increased literacy interest initiated by the Dewan Pimpinan Daerah Satu Pena of West Sumatra and the West Sumatra Talent Indonesia Foundation, supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the West Sumatra Provincial Government.

"One of the topics discussed at the International Minangkabau Literacy Festival (IMLF) event is discussing Minangkabau cultural literacy, from a historical perspective, now and in the future," he added.

Meanwhile, IMLF delegate representative, Prof. David Reeve from Australia said this was the second time he had come to West Sumatra, especially to the city of Padang Panjang after the first time in 1985 or 38 years ago.

David also mentioned that he was very impressed with West Sumatra, especially with its natural beauty and rich and complex customs.

"I put my love for West Sumatra in book form. But it does not discuss customs or nature. What I discussed was Padang public transportation and Minangkabau buses," said David.

He revealed that he chose the theme of the Padang and Minangkabau buses because they had unique decorations on the walls, symbols and pictures and the language.

“From here I see symbols of popular culture. So my book is angkot and Minangkabau buses with popular cultural values. So if anyone wants to see or read my book, please come to the book fair in Bukittinggi. You don't need to buy it if you have time to steal it, the important thing is to have it,” he said, laughing.

David also thanks West Sumatra and Padang Panjang in particular for being a source of inspiration for my work. "Thank you very much," he concluded.(kominfopp; ed. mus) TRANSLATE BY GOOGLE
